Neena Gupta On Her Pregnancy

When Neena Gupta was pregnant with her daughter Masaba Gupta, her friend Sujoy Mitra advised her to marry a gay businessman. Gupta laughed at this proposal because she didn’t feel right about marrying to avoid a controversy, though she knew she had to answer some difficult questions. Neena knew her and her child’s life would always be in speculation, so she hid behind loose clothes for as long as she could.

During an event hosted by Anupam Kher after Satish Kaushik’s death, Neena revealed that the late actor, too, had given her a marriage proposal. She was worried because of her messy pregnancy. “So, I was very worried and I was crying, I said, ‘I didn’t know what would happen next,” she said. Kaushik came to her house and said that if her child were dark, then he would tell everyone that it was his.

Neena Gupta dated former West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards in the 1980s. She gave birth to her daughter Masaba Gupta in 1989 and reared her on her own. In 2008, Neena married Vivek Mehra in a private wedding. Masaba recently welcomed a baby girl named Matara with her husband Satyadeep Mishra in 2024.
