On August 2024, K-pop fans were taken by surprise when SM Entertainment announced that Taeil would be leaving the group as he had been accused of committing a s*x crime. Former NCT member Moon Tae Il, professionally known as Taeil, appeared in his first court hearing today on June 18, at the Seoul Central District Court. The first scheduled for May 12 was delayed and is now being conducted under the 26th Criminal Division.
Details Of Former NCT Member Taeil’s S*x Crime Revealed In Trial
Taeil, together with two accomplices, was charged in March by the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office’s Women and Children Crimes Investigation Division 1, led by Chief Prosecutor Kim Ji Hye. The three were indicted without detention for aggravated quasi-r*pe under the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.
The prosecution has reported that Taeil and his two friends happened to meet the victim at a bar in Itaewon at around 2:33 AM on June 13. They drank together there and then dragged the victim into a taxi and went to the defendant’s residence in Bangbae-dong. Then the three men jointly r*ped the victim, who was unconscious because of being heavily intoxicated.
Moon Taeil has admitted to all charges against him of quasi r*pe and his team has pleaded for leniency. In their statement, Taeil’s legal team said, “We submitted a letter of surrender to the police, and after much difficulty, we reached a settlement with the victim, who is Chinese, and received a statement that they do not wish for punishment.”
What Does The Prosecution Demand
The prosecution is demanding a sentence of at least 7 years for the disgraced K-pop star. When asked about his current living situation, Taeil mentioned that ever since leaving NCT, he has been working at a friend’s restaurant to make a living.
The case initially got exposed last year when the three accused men supposedly r*ped an intoxicated and helpless woman. The fact that several perpetrators were involved and the state of vulnerability of the victim have resulted in the more serious charge of aggravated quasi r*pe.
After the allegations, SM Entertainment immediately terminated its relations with Taeil. In October last year, the company announced that he was leaving NCT and legally ended his sole contract.
