Nayanthara Explains Why She Wrote Open Letter To Dhanush Over Copyright Claim. Deets Inside!
For Nayanthara, speaking out became necessary to defend her perspective and preserve her integrity!

Nayanthara, a prominent South Indian actor, recently broke her silence on the controversy surrounding her open letter to Dhanush. The dispute arose after the trailer for her Netflix documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale, included a brief clip from the 2015 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, produced by Dhanush. The actor-producer alleged copyright infringement, prompting Nayanthara to respond with a strongly worded statement. Now, in an interview, she has shed light on her decision to go public with the issue.
Nayanthara On Dhanush
Nayanthara dismissed allegations that her letter was a publicity stunt, asserting that she acted out of a sense of justice. She emphasized that her intention was never to tarnish Dhanush’s reputation or use the controversy to draw attention to her documentary. Instead, she clarified that the Netflix project was more about giving her fans a glimpse into her personal journey and not about commercial success or failure.
The contentious footage, according to Nayanthara, was merely a few lines from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, a film directed by her husband Vignesh Shivan. She explained that the chosen excerpt held sentimental value, symbolizing the themes of love and family central to her life. However, Dhanush objected to its inclusion, even after she reportedly tried to contact him through his team to resolve the matter amicably.
In the interview, Nayanthara expressed disappointment that Dhanush escalated the issue despite her efforts to communicate. She recounted attempting to clear the air, not to revisit past grievances but to maintain a cordial relationship. However, their strained ties became evident when the two avoided each other at a public event soon after.

Nayanthara also highlighted the nuanced legalities of the dispute. The clip used in the documentary, she argued, was behind-the-scenes footage not governed by contracts from the time of the film’s production. She expressed frustration at how the issue was blown out of proportion, especially given Dhanush’s stature in the industry.
For Nayanthara, speaking out became necessary to defend her perspective and preserve her integrity.
