Nayanthara’s biographical documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale, has once again landed in legal trouble as the Madras High Court has reportedly asked both Netflix and Tarc Studios to file a response within two weeks. The response requested should be in regard to the allegations that Nayanthara’s documentary includes scenes from Rajnikanth’s movie Chandramukhi.
Reports reveal that AP International had filed the petition. The organisation holds the copyright for the Chandramukhi movie. AP International claims that footage from the movie was used in the documentary without their consent, and the producers refused to remove the clips even after legal notices and a ₹5 crore compensation amount.
The petition also calls for disputed footage to be deleted from the documentary and to disclose the finances that it has made so far. The judge, Senthikumar Ramamoorthy, who is presiding over the case, has issued notices to both Netflix and Tarc Studios regarding the petition.
The controversy started when Nayanthara alleged that Dhanush had put pressure on her and did not allow her to use clips from the movie Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in her documentary. She claimed that Dhanush had issued a legal notice asking Nayanthara to pay him Rs 10 crore for using three seconds of BTS footage from the film.
The issue sparked major attention when the actress posted on social media about not receiving an NOC from Dhanush, which further escalated the dispute. Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale was released on November 18, 2024. The documentary explores the early life and career of actress Nayanthara and is available to stream on Netflix.
