About Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Chitrangda
Chitrangda Singh was sitting right next to Shefali Shah when Nawazuddin Siddiqui walked past her without exchanging pleasantries. She also ignored him, and soon, this video started getting viral on social media. In 2018, the actress had accused director Kushan Nandy of harassment during the making of the film Babumoshai Bandookbaaz. She recalled an uncomfortable episode during the filming when Kushan used ‘crass language’ and even forced her to perform a ‘titillating’ intimate scene.
After pleading with the makers that she wasn’t comfortable doing such scenes, the director told her not to make a fuss and do it. Nawazuddin, who was also there during this incident, chose to stay silent. As per Singh, Siddiqui just sat there without saying anything in her support, after which she walked out of the project because of the discomfort, and was eventually replaced by Bidita Bag. She spoke about this in the wake of the 2018 #MeToo movement.

During a chat with Dainik Bhaskar, she claimed that when empowered men in the industry don’t take a stand, the harassers feel encouraged to do such things. She further pointed out at Nawazuddin’s insensitive comments after the incident and said, “And to top it all, during the film’s first press conference, they very blatantly said ‘we are glad she left as we got a better replacement’. During one of the film promotional events, Nawaz went on and made a statement that ‘humne toh doh baari mazze kar liye’.”
However, Kushan Nandy refuted Chitrangda’s charges of using offensive language and asserted that she left the project owing to creative differences. He reportedly threatened to file a defamation lawsuit against her. Nawaz backed Kushan, claiming that the incident ‘did not happen’ as described. He also praised Kushan.
