Sarke Chunar Song Row: National Commission For Women Gives Nora Fatehi Last Chance To Appear For Hearing

A few days back, there was a lot of controversy around the song Sarke Chunar featuring Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt. The song was from the Kannada film KD: The Devil, and it received severe backlash for its vulgar lyrics. The National Commission for Women had also issued a statement slamming the song, and now they have given a final call for Nora Fatehi to present herself for summoning. Read here for more.

The National Commission for Women had summoned Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt over the Sarke Chunar song row. However, Nora’s counsel attended the hearing on her behalf, and the commission was not pleased about it. Now, as per the latest PTI report, NCW has given the final opportunity to Nora Fatehi to come in person for the hearing over the objectionable song. Reportedly, the final date set for this hearing is April 27. NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar presided over the meeting. As per the news reports, the proceedings were attended by the film’s director Prem, the lyricist Raqueeb Alam and some representatives of the production house. The NCW bench asked the people involved to pen an apology note and accept that the song hurt society.

For the unversed, earlier, the director and lyricist had also reacted to the Sarke Chunar song row. As per Raqueeb Alam, he had warned the makers about the impact and had initially refrained from translating the song from its original Kannada lyrics.

In her statement, Nora Fatehi had said that she was not aware of the song being translated into a Hindi version. She also acknowledged the backlash over the lyrics and refrained from encouraging it.
