Naseeruddin Shah Stands Firm With Diljit Dosanjh Amid Hania Aamir, Sardaar Ji 3 Controversy

Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has stepped forward to voice his support for Diljit Dosanjh, who has recently faced a massive wave of criticism over his film Sardaar Ji 3. The controversy began from the casting of popular Pakistani actor Hania Aamir in the film, which led to intense backlash in India and a call for bans on Diljit’s future work. For the unversed, Diljit Dosanjh is also set to star in Border 2.

What Did Naseeruddin Shah Say About Diljit Dosanjh?

Taking to Facebook, Naseeruddin Shah addressed the issue head-on, condemning what he described as politically motivated attempts to target the actor. While acknowledging the outrage surrounding the project, Shah made it clear that the casting decisions were not in Diljit’s hands. “It’s the director who casts the film, not the actor,” he wrote, defending Diljit’s role in the production.

The veteran actor also talked about how the criticism and hate is more because of Diljit’s public persona than the actual problem itself. “They’re going after him simply because he’s visible and globally loved. He agreed to the project because he doesn’t carry hatred in his heart,” Shah added.

Taking a firm stance against attempts to stifle cross-border relationships, Shah emphasised his personal ties with people in Pakistan. “I have close friends and family there. No government can tell me not to send them love or keep in touch,” he said passionately, adding a pointed dig at right-wing critics: “If someone tells me to ‘go to Pakistan’, I’d rather tell them to ‘go to Kailasa’.

Sardaar Ji 3 premiered internationally on June 27 but was not released in India due to the political climate following the Pahalgam terror attack and subsequent military operations. Calls for bans have intensified, with groups like the All Indian Cine Workers Association and the FWICE demanding action against Diljit. Singer Mika Singh also weighed in, suggesting that an apology from Diljit was warranted.
