From Bollywood A-listers to Indian content creators to Indian politicians, everyone seems to be walking the Cannes red carpet. Despite the event being a film festival, the internet is busy focusing on who wore what and complaining about celebs serving fashion fails on the red carpet. Taking to Instagram, filmmaker and actor Nandita Das highlighted the same.

Nandita Das took to Instagram to take a stroll down memory lane and reminded people about the film festival. The actor and filmmaker shared a carousel post with her old pictures from Cannes from 2005 to 2018. Speaking about it, the filmmaker expressed her sadness about missing the film festival and then went on to highlight that people often seem to forget that Cannes is a festival of films and is not about clothes. Pointing out that she cannot show people the amazing films that she watched at Cannes or the conversations she has has or take people back in time when her film Manto premiered at Cannes.

In her caption, Nandita Das revealed that she’s only sharing pictures of herself in sarees as there is a lot of talk about celebs who wore sarees to Cannes. She shared that for her it’s her go-to garment as it is desi, simple and elegant and it’s easy to get in and out of the outfit.

Earlier, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri had spoken about uncomfortable fashion on Cannes red carpet to help with her outfit. He called out Indian celebs for becoming “stupid and oppressive” for uncomfortable fashion and also highlighted that the person behind Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, holding the train of her outfit, in the picture shared by him “costume slave”. The filmmaker claimed that his post has nothing to do with the actress and is focused on the concept of “costume slavery”.
