This time, the responsibilities falls on the shoulders of AIADMK leader and Rajya Sabha MP C Ve Shanmugam for passing a misogynistic remark about actor Nayanthara. Read here to know more about it.
What Did He Say?
While taking a dig Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s campaign ahead of the elections, MP Shanmugam made a rather problematic remark. He was commenting on the CM’S “Tell us your dream” initiative that involved volunteers visting every citizen’s house to collect their feedback and suggestions on the governance. Former minister Shanmugam joked about the campaign and said that his dream was marry Naynathara. He also asked if his dream would be fulfiled and and if he (the CM) can fulfil the dream of marrying Nayanthara.
The minister has since gotten a severe backlash on his comments, from the opposition party DMK. In a statement to NDTV, Dr Syed Hafeezullah, the spokesperson of DMK said that the party was okay with receiving criticism but he should not have vulgarised women. As per him, an insult to Nayanthara was an insult to every woman. He also requested AIADMK party to take strong action against this. Many other minister from the party also commented on the remark and called it disgusting. The have criticised the minister for disrespecting a woman.
As of now there have been no response from the minister or the party over his remark.
