The world of K-pop, while vibrant and global, still holds onto certain traditional expectations, particularly regarding idols and their romantic lives. A portion of fans continue to express disapproval when idols are linked to dating rumours. They view it as a betrayal of their dedicated support. The most recent idol to face this scrutiny is Minhyuk from the group MONSTA X.
On March 24th, an account on X shared photos and videos alleging Minhyuk was in a romantic relationship. The account shared what they claimed was evidence of his meetings with the woman, including pictures of his shoes and instances where they appeared to be in the same location, particularly in Busan. One photo, showing his hands, was reportedly deleted shortly after being posted.
The reaction from some fans was swift and critical. They expressed less concern about the existence of a relationship and more about what they perceived as a lack of professionalism. Some fans argued that Minhyuk should not be flaunting his personal life when he had promised increased communication and fan events. They accused him of neglecting his duties, pointing out his absence from the fan communication platform Bubble during a week-long trip to Japan. The sentiment was that idols, who are supported by their fans, should prioritise their professional responsibilities.

Further fuelling the controversy, now one account on X has released additional evidence after receiving an anonymous tip. The tip stated that approximately a month prior, Minhyuk was seen with his alleged girlfriend at the Shinsegae Mall in Gangnam, browsing dishes. This latest piece of information has intensified the online discourse. What do you think?
