Back in 2017, when Mira Rajput made a comment comparing babies to puppies, it sparked an internet-wide rage against her, so much so that people still bash her for it. Reflecting on the incident, Mira now regrets her words and acknowledges the backlash they received and she would like to be forgiven now. Mira’s initial remark came during a Women’s Day event, where she expressed her preference for being a stay-at-home mother. She questioned why women would have children if they couldn’t dedicate time to them, stating, “She is not a puppy, you know.”

In a candid interview with Film Companion, Mira reflected on her past statement. She admitted, that she was pushed into that corner for seeming very regressive, she probably acted out by saying things. However, she doesn’t agree with them right now. She thinks she has come a long way from that. She explained that at the time, she felt vulnerable and was trying to defend her personal choices.

Mira acknowledged the criticism, saying, that now she can understand why it wasn’t taken well. She was in an emotional space, trying to validate her own decisions and now she regrets that and knows that it hurt a lot of people, said Mitra. She views the incident as a pivotal moment that taught her the challenges of living under public scrutiny. Despite the continued negative reactions, she expressed gratitude for her husband Shahid’s unwavering support during that tumultuous period. Seeking forgiveness, Mira stated, “I think it’s about time I am forgiven for that because life comes full circle and you make mistakes and you learn from them.” She hopes that people can move past the comment and understand her growth since then.
Reflecting on the original incident, Mira had articulated her desire to be a present mother, saying, “I wouldn’t want to spend one hour a day with my child and rush off to work. Why did I have her? She is not a puppy, you know. I want to be there for her as a mother; seeing her grow up cannot be quantified.”
Mira married Shahid Kapoor in 2015 and together, they have two children, a daughter, and a son.
