Vaani Kapoor On Facing Colourism

During the interview with News18, Vaani revealed that one filmmaker once rejected her for a role by informing her she was not “fair enough” to take on the part. “Apparently, the director believed I wasn’t ‘milky white’. I didn’t hear it from him directly, but I was later informed that that’s why I didn’t get the role,” she explained. Where such comments might quickly break one’s confidence, Vaani had a simple explanation that she never allowed such criticism to affect her to the very core of her being. She always had faith in her ability, irrespective of what others said.

The actress also mentioned how individuals tend to make comments regarding her thin physique. “There’s always this one thing people say that I’m too skinny, or that I should gain weight because ‘curvier women are preferred,'” she said. “But I enjoy being the way I am. I’m healthy, I’m fit, and I don’t think I should do anything differently with myself.” Vaani said that she does sometimes question whether comments like that are motivated by concern or judgment, but either way, she’s learned not to let them affect her self-perception.
