Bollywood stars Janhvi Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra are all set for the release of their upcoming film Param Sundari. Their film’s trailer was met with immense love due to their fresh chemistry and soulful songs. But many also questioned the former’s portrayal as a Kerala girl in the film produced by Dinesh Vijan. Now, a Malayali influencer has questioned Kapoor’s incorrect words and slammed her poor diction in the language. Read to know more.

Janhvi Kapoor In Param Sundari

The audience was left divided over Janhvi Kapoor’s role as a Malayali girl in the film. While many claimed that not all girls from Kerala are doing Mohiniyattam, others pointed out that not all girls wear jasmine flowers in their hair all the time. Actor Pavithra Menon was one of the first to call out the actress’s portrayal, which was deleted on Instagram and later re-uploaded. Now, another Malayali influencer, Divya Nair, ’s video online get a copyright strike.

In a recent conversation with Mid-Day, she said, “Poor diction can sometimes be forgiven, but here, the Malayalam words themselves aren’t clear or correct. The film was shot in Kerala on a massive budget.” She questioned the makers’ decision not to hire a local dialect coach. Divya also called out the scene where Janhvi introduced herself as Theykkapetta Sundari Damodaran Pillai, and said that her first name actually means being dumped in Malayalam.

Giving another example, the influencer said that her surname, Pillai, is actually pronounced as ‘Pilla’ in the language. While Janhvi is cast opposite Sidharth Malhotra, she felt that other names like Nayanthara, Keerthy Suresh, Nithya Menen, Sai Pallavi, or Samantha Ruth Prabhu would have done justice for the role. Addressing the criticism, Janhvi Kapoor said that her character Sundari is half Tamilian and half Malayali, further noting that neither she nor her mother is from Kerala.
