In case you don’t know, a young actress has alleged that he s*xually assaulted her. Ranjith was arrested yesterday by Ernakulam Central police with the help of the Thodupuzha local authorities. Now, a report has revealed new details about his judicial custody and the action that the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) has taken against him. Know all about it below.
Details About Filmmaker Ranjith’s Judicial Custody
According to a report by Hindustan Times, after his arrest on Tuesday, filmmaker Ranjith was sent to 14-day judicial custody on Wednesday morning. He also conversed with the media and denied the s*xual assault allegations, labelling them “false.” The filmmaker stated that he would be able to prove his innocence in the case while being taken inside the sub-jail in Kochi. His attorney has stated that they are gearing up to make a bail plea in court.

FEFKA Takes Action
Following Ranjith’s arrest, the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) has reportedly recommended suspending his membership in the director’s and writers’ unions. B. Unnikrishnan, general secretary, revealed that no complaint was filed with the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in relation to the incident, per the report by the Hindustan Times.
For the unversed, media reports revealed that the case allegedly happened on the sets of a film that is currently in development. The young actress accused Ranjith of behaving inappropriately while filming the project. It’s important to note that before this, the filmmaker, who was the Kerala Chalachitra Academy’s chairman, stepped down from this position in 2024 after a Bengali actress named Sreelekha Mitra accused him of harassment. However, after he resigned, he refuted the said allegations.
