Actresses have often been vocal about the sexism that happens in the film industry. We still see issues like pay disparity, casting couch and so on plaguing the industry. In a recent episode of a talk show, some popular actresses spoke about the incidents when they were made to feel lesser than an actor and were reminded about their genders, yet again! On this, Malavika Mohanan shared her journey of realising her worth and selecting roles as per that. She even dropped some truth bombs about the working of the industry and perspective regarding the actresses. 

Actress Malavika Mohanan has done many films over the years. She shared her process of selecting films and how it changed with time after she realised her worth as an actress. In the latest episode of Maitri, Malavika Mohanan opened up about how any actress’s worth is determined by the audience, media and the industry. Making her strong comment on this, the actress stated that an actress can only become an overnight star if she is featured opposite a famous male actor. Sharing her honest opinion, the actress further added that she too had similar perspectives and use to select films as per that. Malavika said that actresses are conditioned to think that their worth and popularity depend on the banners and male stars she decides to work with. 

However, during the interview, Malavika Mohanan also accepted that over the years she has changed her process of choosing films and now focuses more on the character’s part in the film. The actress stated how she realised that her popularity only lasted till the film’s hype was in the public and that too because of the male. It reminded Malavika of her mother’s advice of choosing films purely based on their worth.
