After photos of Lisa at Alter Ego’s listening party were seen, many felt these choices were inappropriate, especially considering her young audience. Furthermore, her song lyrics also received criticism. Specific lines about bending and bouncing fuelled the backlash. In response to the backlash, Madison Beer defended Lisa. Madison wrote that despite the album’s musical and visual quality, some people focused on criticising Lisa’s clothing and song lyrics. This pattern of attacking female artists for their choices is not new.
