Madhoo Was Unhappy Doing THIS In Films After Rojaa, Decided To Quit Industry In The 90s

We can all agree that the kind of roles that are written for women who cross a certain age limit are not as interesting as the men’s roles who also would be of their age. Older actresses are asked to play the mother’s role or are given roles that are not meaty or prominent. In a recently held roundtable discussion which was attended by Madhoo, Aishwarya Rajesh and Malavika Mohanan, the Sweet Kaaram Coffee actress revealed how she quit the industry because she was not offered good roles anymore.

When Malavika Mohanan said that there is a lack of well-written roles for women where she plays more than just a catalyst in the man’s mission, Madhoo chimed in saying that this was precisely why she quit the industry. She elaborated by saying that by this time, she had played strong roles of women in Rojaa, Annayya and Yoddha.

Madhoo went on to say that she, then, starred in many Hindi films too during an era when action hero-centric films were reigning. She added that she danced in many of those movies, spoke a few romantic lines and shed a few tears with the parents. Madhoo said that even though she was doing these roles, people were praising her for Rojaa which made her realise that was ‘totally unhappy’ doing those roles.

Madhoo went on to say that her passion was to be an artist and that she would get a ‘funny feeling’ that she did not like what she was doing. It is at this time she decided that she wanted to quit. So, around the time when was getting married, she quit the industry but the fact that she is an artist made her come back to start again.
