Maamla Legal Hai S2 Review: This Ravi Kishan Starrer Is Hilarious, Emotionally Charged, But Stumbles At Times
Maamla Legal Hai season 2 is currently streaming on Netflix. Here's a quick review of the Ravi Kishan show!
Maamla Legal Hai feels like a desi-fied version of Suits. It is a perfect blend of courtroom drama with our local flavours. After a delightful first season, I wondered if the second would be equally engaging. Well, it’s finally here, and the show has been watched! Produced by Posham Pa Pictures, directed by Rahul Pandey, the series features Ravi Kishan, Nidhi Bisht, Naila Grrewal, Anant V Joshia and Amit Vikram Pandey in pivotal roles. Kusha Kapila and Dinesh Lal Yadav have also joined the cast. The show continues its streak of showcasing some unusual and quirky cases at the Patparganj District Court, but this time, it expands its narrative with more character arcs. With many hits and a fair share of misses, here’s a quick review of Maamla Legal Hai season 2!
Plot
The eight-episode show, each with a running time of around 35-40 minutes, takes us back to the chaos of the Patparganj District Court. However, things have now changed here. Ravi Kishan’s VD Tyagi has been promoted to a judge. Sujata Negi (Nidhi Bisht) and Lakhmir Mintu (Anjum Batra) are competing for the Bar President’s position, which adds a new layer of rivalry. Ananya Shroff (Naila Grrewal) has a new contender, played by Kusha Kapila. And the season also delves into deeper character dynamics. like Law (Amit Vikram Pandey) and Sujata Negi’s (Nidhi Bisht) fun banter at Mintu Ji. It also shifts its attention to the personal journeys of some important characters in the film, mainly VD Tyagi, as her goes through a self-reflective phase.
What Works!
Storytelling
Maamla Legal Hai season 2 is yet again an easy-breezy watch. The show’s crisp, no-nonsense episodes are one of its biggest strengths, and it works again. But the writers ensure that storytelling doesn’t dilute its impact on the audience. I particularly found myself invested in VD Tyagi’s journey, and the constant dilemma he faces after becoming a judge. This narrative is well spread over the eight episodes and reaches a rather satisfactory end, too.
Created by Saurabh Khanna and Kunal Aneja and written by Kunal Aneja, Syed Shadan, Mohak Aneja, and Tatsat Pandey, the new season does not disappoint with its cases at the Patparganj Court. It sheds light on some very relevant discussions in current times, like consumer-related disputes, harassment against men, and also makes subtle commentaries on the dire conditions of police stations, pending cases and more. Some serious topics are dealt with in the most satirical and humorous manner, and safe to say, it’s a delight to watch it all over again.
The series has many hilarious dialogues, and I found myself pausing in these moments just to laugh them out! However, Maamla Legal Hai season 2 also makes you go a bit emotional this time. Some character dynamics are written well! Some conversations are particularly a stand-out moment for me.
Perfomances
Ravi Kishan as VD Tyagi is learning the ways of a judge. He is expected to leave everything behind, his colleagues cum friends, his office, and his once-notorious style for a role that demands a sense of sensitivity. The actor has delivered the nuances of his characters perfectly. Nidhi Bisht is, as always, hilarious, but the actor maintains a restrained persona whenever the script demands. Anjum Batra as Mintu Ji is a delight to watch. Naila Grewal’s character also undergoes a journey of proving herself as a capable lawyer, and the actor captures this arc effectively. Kusha Kapila is a refreshing addition to the show, and Dinesh Lal Yadav (Nirauha) brings a crackling energy. Anant V Joshi, the Donna of the Patparganj Court, continues to amuse us with his performance. Amit Vikram Pandey’s Law also gets a dedicated episode that explores the challenges of his character. And the actor does a commendable job in bringing it to life.

What Lacks
There are no major issues in the writing; however, some dynamics and the initial few episodes are underwhelming. The Ananya and Law sub-plot feels undercooked, and the continuation of Ananya’s dynamics with Vishwas also seems like a misfit here. The show gets engaging and starts to find its footing from episode 5 when the narrative delves deeper into its storytelling and conflicts. Some characters could’ve benefited from strong writing.
Also, unlike the first season, there are very few courtroom hearings in this show, which bothers, TBH! The charm and witty courtroom arguments were highly missed!
