Lady Gaga is officially coming to Nevermore Academy. During Netflix’s Tudum fan festival at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on May 31, the streamer officially announced that the global pop star and award-winning actress will be appearing in Wednesday Season 2 in a cryptic new role. Gaga will be playing Rosaline Rotwood, a famed instructor at Nevermore who is anticipated to have a profound and perhaps unsettling impact on Wednesday Addams.
Lady Gaga In Wednesday Season 2
Attendees at the concert were in for a shock when Gaga stepped out of a coffin on stage, embracing the dark Addams Family vibe with an impromptu live performance. She performed a theatrical mini-set featuring her songs Zombieboy and Abracadabra, throwing in a dance routine to Goo Goo Muck as well, the same song that caused Jenna Ortega’s legendary season 1 dance scene to trend. After the show, Gaga returned to her coffin, as the audience was left exhilarated and somewhat spooked.
The casting news comes in a divided year for Gaga in films. Her latest work on Joker: Folie à Deux wasn’t exactly warmly welcomed, but she has long demonstrated her ability as an actor in the likes of House of Gucci and A Star Is Born. The latter won her an Oscar for Best Original Song and a Best Actress nomination, evidence of her dramatic range. Fans of horror will also recall her on American Horror Story, when she played a slinky vampire and blood-drenched witch in Hotel and Roanoke.
Although Netflix hasn’t revealed much about Rosaline Rotwood’s plot so far, Gaga’s role is likely to have a prominent role in Part 2 of the next season. According to teasers, Rosaline will encounter Wednesday in some dramatic and potentially game-altering means.
Wednesday’s Season 2 will be released in two chunks, with the first hitting theaters on August 6 and the second on September 3. The chapter is being called darker and more emotionally complex, with Wednesday dealing with complex relationships, new dangers, and old foes. In an interview with showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, it is revealed that this season takes Wednesday out of her comfort zone where she must deal with challenges she can’t simply forecast or manipulate.
