The much-loved Waterbomb Festival recently took place in Seoul and created massive buzz on the internet. Several videos and photos from the event instantly went viral. And as expected, Kwon Eunbi, aka the “Queen of Waterbomb,” once again made headlines with her sizzling performance. However, apart from her performance, her choice of outfit ignited a heated debate online. Read on to know more.
After the K-pop idol’s videos went viral, netizens had mixed reactions. One user wrote, “She only gets attention when she’s objectifying herself lol. That’s sad.” Another user wrote, “”What matters is context, and the context is an incel society and a dangerous industry that oversexualizes women to get public interest. Yes, I would not say this if that was a male idol because it’s a MALE idol. This is definitely not empowering; I just hope it’s her own choice.”
Amid all of this, fans strongly defended. One user added that Eunbi was receiving mean and vulgar comments simply for dancing at Waterbomb. The user further asked people to enjoy her performance and move on.
Another user added that the criticism was not limited to Knetz, as international K-pop fans were also engaging in the discussion. “I can think of so many female K-pop idols who have worn less and danced way more sexually (and this goes for big-name idols too), yet they did not get this type of discourse. The only reason is because she actually has a body with something on it.”
Well, it’s her own body, so let her flaunt it.
