Kubbra Sait Reveals She Was Sexually Abused As A Teenager, Shares Chilling Details. It’s Breaking Our Hearts.

Child sexual abuse is more common in this world than we’d all like to accept. And this isn’t something that only happens to a certain section of the society and not to the others. This can and has happened to people across all castes and classes of people including celebrities. This social evil (or crime) spares no one. In her latest book Open Book: Not Quite A Memoir, actress Kubbra Sait has revealed that she was sexually abused as a teenager and she continued suffering in silence in order to protect her family. While the actress has not revealed the name of her abuser, she did share that the person who abused her was a family friend and this person went on to abuse her in her own home for two and a half years.

Recounting the abuse, Kubbra Sait shared that she informed her mother about the incident many years later and recently her mother apologised to her about it. Sharing her traumatic experience, the actress said that she was 17 years old when the ‘greatest tragedy’ of her life happened to her. She would regularly visit a restaurant in Bangalore with her parents and the owner of the restaurant became close to both her and her brother, Danish. She revealed that this person, who she calls ‘X’ in the book, often helped her mother with her ‘financial woes’ and soon after his ‘help’, this man began sexually abusing her and insisted that she shouldn’t call him uncle.

In the excerpt from Open Book: Not Quite A Memoir shared by Hindustan Times, Kubbra Sait revealed the first time she was sexually abused by X. Recalling the incident, the actress shared that he took her to a hotel and began stroking her face before kissing her and it left her ‘shocked and confused’ but she was frozen. She said that she should have screamed or run and asked for help but she couldn’t as she was frozen and ‘shell-shocked’. She went on to share that he continued kissing her and then convinced her that this is what she wanted and it would make her feel better before he unbuckled his trousers. She further added that she was unsure of what exactly was happening but she does remember thinking that she was losing her virginity and it was a big deal but also her ‘shameful secret’.

Kubbra Sait also revealed that X was married and had a child and during the years he sexually abused her, he also went on to father another child with his wife. She shared that if she tried to resist him, he would stop taking her mother’s calls and her mother, unknown to the fact that X was abusing her daughter, would berate her for fighting with him when he refused to help the family. In her book, she wrote that she was being sexually abused and no one in her family or her close perimeter could tell what was happening. She went on to and that ‘life isn’t a fairytale’ while revealing that X threatened her family and told her that it would ‘destory’ them if she ever told anyone about the sexual abuse and she believed him but her mind and soul ‘felt dead’ in that moment.

Knowing about these horrific details of sexual abuse that Kubbra Sait had to go through breaks our hearts. As much as we wish to bring about change in society, the fact remains that we cannot change the deep-rooted criminal mentality of abusers which leaves us with only one thing to do. Spread awareness and ensure that every kid knows about good touch and bad touch and every abuser is given the harshest possible punishment to deter other criminals from committing such crimes but that is again a far-fetched thought in a country where most child sexual abuse victims don’t speak up due to fear and in most cases, their voices are shut down due to the fear of society and ‘log kya kahenge’ and all the victim-blaming. Moreover, we’ve all come across cases where victims are often not believed because of the power, position and image of the abuser. But for now, we wish Kubbra all the luck, love and blessing in the world. Sending you loads of healing energy, girl.
