Kubbra Sait Shares She Had An Abortion After A One-Night Stand. Can We Have More Women Talking About This?

Pre-marital sex and abortion are usually hush-hush topics. No one wants to talk or acknowledge the fact that pre-martial sex is real and people across the country are indulging in it. But more importantly no one wants to talk about reality that sex has a downside, unwanted pregnancies. Sometimes even the most careful people end up with unwanted pregnancies after failure of contraception and that usually ends with women getting abortions. The fact is that abortions are much more common than we’d like to accept and talk about it because it’s usually something that we all look down upon. Even in 2022, abortion continues to remain a hush-hush topic with the stigma around it but one of our fave actresses has made an attempt to normalise this medical procedure by talking about it. Recently actress Kubbra Sait released her book ‘Open Book: Not Quite A Memoir’. In her book, the actress reveals her childhood days in Bengaluru along with her problems with social anxiety, being molested at an early age, body shaming, and a one-night stand that led to an abortion.

In ‘Open Book: Not Quite A Memoir’ Kubbra Sait gives an insight into her life in the most unapologetic and unabashed manner along with some touchy subjects that are usually not talked about. In one chapter titled, ‘I Wasn’t Ready To Be A Mother’, Kubbra Sait recalled a trip to Andamans at the age of 30. She recounted that after a night scuba diving experience, she sat down to drink with her friend and it ended with her getting intimate with a close friend. But a few days later when she missed her period and took a pregnancy test, she realised that she was pregnant. In an excerpt from the book quoted by Times Now, the actress shared that a week after her pregnancy test came positive, she decided to terminate the pregnancy as she wasn’t ready for it and it wasn’t how she had imagined her life.

Discussing the abortion in an exclusive interview with Times Now Digital, Kubbra Sait revealed that she believes that she wasn’t ready for it then and even now she doesn’t think that she’s ready. Speaking further, the actress said that she does not understand the pressure women have to get married at the age of 23 and have children by 30. “It is like a set invisible rulebook. I knew I was not ready for it,” said the actress while adding that she has no regrets. But she went on to elaborate that she felt like a terrible human being for the choice she made. She also pointed out that her feelings of guilt did not come from how she felt but rather from how it would be perceived. “My choice was about me. Sometimes helping yourself can be hard. But it is ok. You have to do it,” said Kubbra in her interaction with Times Digital.
