K-pop became a global wave when mega-popular South Korean band BTS broke into the Western market. Ever since then, the lines between K-pop and the West have become blurred. Most K-pop groups now promote and tour in America. BTS’ label HYBE even collaborated with Geffen Records to debut their own K-Pop inspired girl group called KATSEYE. Now, a film based on K-pop is also on the way! Produced by HYBE America and Paramount Pictures, a K-pop themed film is in the works. The film will star Korean singer Eric Nam and KPop Demon Hunters actress Ji Young Yoo.

The film will follow the journey of a Korean-American girl who, despite her family’s objections, participates in a K-pop audition program to fulfil her dreams of becoming a K-pop idol. The main lead for the films has already been cast. Kpop Demon Hunters star Ji Young Yoo, who played Zoey in the movie, and American-Korean K-pop singer Eric Nam have been cast as the main leads for the film.
The film is set for theatrical release on February 12, 2027, with filming set to begin in mid-September this year. It will be shot entirely in South Korea. This will mark the first time a major Hollywood studio will be filming an entire movie production based in the country.
