From global sensations like BTS to BLACKPINK, many prominent stars are believed to have been major sources of inspiration. For example, one of the most popular characters, Rumi, was widely known to be inspired by BLACKPINK’s Jennie. However, the film’s director, Maggie Kang, recently opened up about it. Read on to know!

Maggie Kang clarified on X that Rumi’s character took inspiration from numerous influential women and not just K-Pop artists. She said that when interviewers brought up specific idols and groups, the team confirmed those mentions, which led to the public’s assumptions that those individuals were the sole inspirations. However, the director stated that the actual list of inspirations for both the group’s characters is endless. Lastly, she added that this clarification had already been provided to the press.

Following Maggie Kang’s clarification, many fans reacted negatively to her statement. They expressed disappointment and accused the director of seeking attention or “clout”. One fan wrote, “Of course, the only name your team could come up with was Jennie since you wanted the clout. Clout chasers, aren’t we?” Another fan wrote, “@oddatelier please take action against these people using Jennie name first for attention and insulting her under her post.”
