The chart-topping single ‘Golden’ from Netflix’s animated film KPop Demon Hunters reached the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100! The song, sung by the movie’s fictional girl group Huntrix, had been rising on the chart steadily since debuting at number 81 in early July. It has now reached the number one position after seven weeks, becoming the first girl group to top the Hot 100 since Destiny’s Child in 2001 with ‘Bootylicious’. Read on to know more.

‘Golden’ dethrones Alex Warren’s ‘Ordinary’, which had ruled the chart for nine out of the last ten weeks. Billboard reports that ‘Golden’ accrued 31.7 million streams, 7,000 sales, and 8.4 million radio impressions last week.
The track is the biggest hit from the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack, but it is not alone in its success. ‘Your Idol’ by Saja Boys also reached number eight this week, with a number of other tracks from the soundtrack doing well on streaming sites. On Spotify’s US Top 50 chart, six of the top ten places are currently occupied by the soundtrack, with ‘Your Idol’ and ‘Soda Pop’ in second and fourth place.
Recently, KPop Demon Hunters became the fourth most-watched English-language film on Netflix, garnering 158.8 million views thus far. The film has even garnered acclaim from real-life K-pop idols like BTS’s Jungkook and SEVENTEEN members.
Republic Records and Visva Records, the label founded by songwriter-producer Savan Kotecha, worked together to produce KPop Demon Hunters‘ Golden. Republic Records’ CEO Jim Roppo said the team did not expect much at first but were pleasantly surprised by the huge response from the public.
