KPop Demon Hunters 2 Is On Its Way, HUNTR/X To Reunite With Fans In A Few Years

On March 12, 206, Netflix’s official news site, Tudum, announced that a KPop Demon Hunters (KPDH) sequel was in the works. While no release date has been announced yet, experts are hopeful of a 2029 release. According to reports, the movie is part of a multi-year deal signed between Netflix and Maggie Kang with Chris Applehans. While the pair will direct the second part of KPDH, the contract speaks of writing and directing animated features. One hopes that the award-winning pair collaborates on other projects as well.

On the confirmation of the sequel, Maggie Kang felt “immense pride as a Korean filmmaker.”  To have viewers want more from a “Korean story and [its] Korean characters” was a revelation. She adds that they have a lot more to show from their KPop Demon Hunters world that she was excited to show everyone. “This is only the beginning,” she concluded.

Chris Appelhans seemed to concur. He said the KPDH characters were “like family” and the world inside was akin to their “second home.” Expressing his excitement for the next film, he articulated that he wished to challenge the fictional characters and “watch them evolve.”  He finished with a resolute promise to “continue pushing the boundaries of how music, animation, and story can come together.”

More About KPop Demon Hunters

The original film dealt with an all-woman demon-fighting K-pop trio HUNTR/X coming across a team of demon K-pop idols, Saja Boys. How the girls fight internal and external pressures to defeat them and make the world safer forms the rest of the movie. Universally loved despite its surprising title, it weaves in Korean folktales, K-pop history, and strong female characters as if they’ve always been there.
