In the latest episode of Koffee With Karan, host Karan Johar welcomed the popular mother-son duo–Sharmila Tagore and Saif Ali Khan to the coffee couch. Spilling beans about their lovely bond, the two also revealed some interesting details about Saif’s personal life and professional projects. Besides all the fun, we also found out that not Shabana Azmi, but Sharmila Tagore was the first choice for Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
Talking about his biggest directorial of the year, Johar mentioned that he first approached the legendary actress to play the role of Alia Bhatt’s grandmother, which was eventually portrayed by Shabana Azmi. Owing to her Bengali roots, Johar’s choice was definitely an appropriate one, but Sharmila Ji couldn’t collaborate with him on this. Speaking about the reason behind the same, the actress said that it all happened during the height of Covid. She said–” They hadn’t really grappled with Covid at that time. They didn’t know the vaccine… We were not vaccinated. You know, after my cancer. So, they didn’t want me to take that risk.”
