From Kim Soo Hyun’s Dating Controversy To Taeil’s S*x Crime, 5 Korean Controversies That Shook The World!

K-pop and Korean dramas often feel like a dream world. However, just like every industry, unexpected events take place, and it makes us realise that it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Like, when controversies and scandals emerge, they pull back the curtain and remind us of the human element behind fame. Here are five Korean scandals and controversies that shocked the world.

1. Kim Soo Hyun Scandal

The recent one in the list is Kim Soo Hyun’s underage dating scandal with late actor Kim Sae Ron. The late actor’s aunt stated that the Queen of Tears actor dated Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor. However, Kim Soo Hyun denied underage dating during a press conference. Since the controversy surfaced, many brands have cut ties with Soo Hyun, and he has received massive backlash. The legal fight is ongoing as the Queen of Tears actor filed a lawsuit against Kim Sae Ron’s family.

2. Burning Sun Scandal

Then there’s this significant event that shook the entertainment industry. A famous nightclub in Seoul, partly owned by the singer Seungri from BIGBANG, became the centre of a big and upsetting story in 2019. It began when someone said they were hurt at the club. But what police found was much bigger and darker. People started talking about bad things happening at Burning Sun. They said the club helped men meet women for s*x. There were also whispers of drugs being used and sold inside. The worst part was the secret filming of women. Some were filmed without their knowledge, sometimes when they couldn’t even say no. These videos were then shared in secret chats with famous people like Seungri, Jung Joon-young, and Choi Jong-hoon.

It was also said that some police officers helped the club keep these secrets, maybe by taking money. Because of all this, many people were arrested. Seungri was found guilty of setting up meetings for sex and gambling illegally. He had to go to jail. Jung Joon-young and Choi Jong-hoon were also jailed for hurting women and sharing those secret videos.

3. Taeil S’x Crime

More recently, news broke about Taeil, a former member of the group NCT. His agency, SM Entertainment, announced his departure due to an ongoing police investigation into an unspecified s*x crime. Authorities confirmed the investigation began in June, and the alleged victim is an adult woman.

4. Hyeri, Ryu Jun Yeol And Han So Hee Controversy

Another story that grabbed headlines involved actors Hyeri and Ryu Jun Yeol. They were a known couple after starring in a drama together but broke up in late 2023. Shortly after, Ryu Jun Yeol was seen on vacation with actress Han So Hee, leading to speculation about the timing of the relationships. Han So Hee publicly denied any wrongdoing and even addressed Hyeri directly, while Ryu Jun Yeol remained quiet amidst the online discussions and criticism.
