In recent events, Bollywood actor Disha Patani’s sister and former Indian Army officer Khushboo Patani has advised women to consider owning an air pistol for self-defence. This advice comes after the assault incident in Bihar’s Jamui district. She demonstrated the operation of a compressed-gas air pistol in a video posted on social media. She also urged women to take professional training at local shooting ranges rather than rely on external security.
What Khushboo Patani Said
Taking to her social media, Khushboo Patani demonstrated the working of a .177 calibre air pistol and explained how this uses carbon dioxide cartridges rather than conventional gunpowder. She explained that a good air pistol costs between Rs 60,000 to Rs 70,000 and recommended that women should learn these quick-draw techniques and handling from a local shooting facilities. She further asked women to protect themselves and not depend on anyone else; otherwise, such incidents would not stop in India. In a disclaimer, Patani emphasised that this should strictly be used for self-defence and in extreme do-or-die situations.
She further advised women against online purchases and urged them to consult licensed local district dealers to pick a model with manageable weight and rape handling speed. She further cited Article 21 of the Indian Constitution, which guarantees the protection of life and personal liberty. Khushboo Patani further urged women to build self-confidence and also said that the right to self-preservation is a basic constitutional right. Her video comes after the public outrage following the harassment incident in Bihar’s Jamui district, when 2 class 10th students were assaulted by a group of men while returning from a local scenic spot.
