KD: The Devil Director Prem Addresses Sarke Chunar Song Row, Says He Wasn’t Familiar With Hindi Translation

The song ‘Sarke Chunar’ from KD: The Devil received severe backlash for its vulgar lyrics. The song features Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt, and the actors were also criticised for opting it. It’s a Kannada film directed by Prem, and he had also written the original lyrics of the song while Raqueeb Alam had penned the Hindi translation. Finally the film’s director has addressed the row, and also the allegations that the song was written just to create controversy. Read here to know more about it.

What Did The Director Say?

The film’s song was under severe heat on social media for the questionable lyrics. Raqueeb and Nora Fatehi also reacted to the backlash, and now director Prem has addressed the situation. In a conversation with Hindustan Times, the director stated that he would not want any controversy. He added that his film was an emotional one and the song was simply meant for everyone to dance at parties. Prem also said that the people in Karnataka and Kerala enjoyed the song and again questioned about why would he want controversy.

Talking about the Hindi version that was under fire, he said that the Kannada version had no such problem but he wasn’t familiar with the Hindi words and did not understand it. According to Prem, lines like ‘neeche mat gira, uthao’ were a part of everyday speech in his village. He also added the words have been changed and the new version will sent to CBFC. The director apologised to everyone who feelings were hurt but also added that their huge project face a small lyrics issue which was blown out of proportion. He asked everyone to focus on the more bigger problems in the country like the LPG issue.

Nora Fatehi also reacted to the backlash by sharing a video message on social media. She thanked the social users for the backlash which mounted pressure on the makers to ultimately take down the video. The actor also said that she was unaware about the Hindi version of the song as she had only signed up for the Kannada song three years ago.
