Girl Group KATSEYE is currently under fire after the release of the group’s choreography performance video for their song Gabriela. Fans have raised concerns over the suggestive moves included in the dance choreography. One of the members of KATSEYE, Yoonchae, is currently a minor. People feel that it is inappropriate to make a 17-year-old do such choreography.
Why People Think Gabriela’s Choreography Is Inappropriate For KATSEYE’s Yoonchae
The backlash mainly centres around a portion of the dance during Gabriela’s bridge. Yoonchae is seen doing rocky moves and then a floor choreography lying around fellow member Daniela. Many fans feel that this move was too suggestive for a minor to be performing. Many posts about people expressing their discomfort with this creative choice are going viral online.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time HYBE has faced criticism for giving Yoonchae a choreography that is better suited for adults. The company has been called out several times for not giving her age-appropriate outfits during performances.
Some fans are defending the performance video and argue that teenagers on social media all the time perform such dances without anyone complaining. Others argue that the problem lies in the context of the situation.
Many fans have called on the company to be more mindful of how young idols are presented, especially when it comes to choreography and styling. The hope is that future performances will strike a better balance between showcasing talent and maintaining appropriate boundaries for younger members.
KATSEYE have recently released their 2nd EP titled ‘Beautiful Chaos’. The EP features some of their hit singles like Gnarly, Gabriela and Gameboy.
