It’s not uncommon for actors to experience periods without work in the entertainment industry. Recently, Karan Patel shared his experience of not receiving any offers for daily soap operas in the past six years. He stated that the increasing number of new actors willing to work for significantly lower pay is a contributing factor.
The actor also mentioned that production houses are now leaning towards creating web series for the same budget as a single television show. This impacts the opportunities available for television actors. Karan Patel also expressed his disappointment with the current content on OTT platforms. He stated that he hasn’t received many offers in the OTT space either, for both good and bad roles. In his opinion, the OTT landscape has become saturated, and many shows focus on unnecessary intimate scenes to gain viewership.
He further discussed a concerning trend of the industry blindly following the success of certain films or genres. The actor gave examples of how, after the success of films like Kabir Singh and Animal, there was a surge in stories revolving around similar themes. He also mentioned that after the popularity of Family Man on OTT, many started creating thrillers, even production houses known for romance.
Moreover, Karan Patel believes that the industry lacks the courage to experiment with new ideas and often relies on replicating what has worked in the South Indian film industry. He praised production houses like Maddock Films for taking risks with genres like horror-comedy, which ultimately led to their success. What are your thoughts?
