On Monday, February 9, a Mumbai court restrained Ajey Nagar, aka CarryMinati and his team from posting any defamatory content against director Karan Johar. They also directed Meta Platforms and others to ensure that the video was taken down. This comes after a roast video was uploaded on his YouTube channel named Coffee With Jalan, a joke on his popular show Koffee With Karan. As per the filmmaker’s plea, the video used abusive language and attacked his name while mocking Bollywood’s nepotism culture.
Judge Pandurang Bhosale, who heard the case, said that Ajey Nagar and Deepak Char (manager of the CarryMinati channel) have made defamatory statements and used vulgar language against Karan. The judge ordered that the films be removed immediately and forbade their further distribution on any social media platform. In his petition, the producer also said that the statements made in the roast were highly vulgar and had already been viewed by millions before being deleted.
He said that many users started making short clips and reels from the original video, causing further damage to his reputation. In response to this, CarryMinati’s team said that the original video had already been removed and that there was no reason for him to drag the case any further. They alleged that Johar filed the suit in a hurry without allowing Ajey to clarify his side.
