Karan Johar’s filmography has been a boon for cinema lovers. But the 52-year-old filmmaker has been amidst various controversies for his films. In recent times, it has become a necessity for all production houses to have a legal team just as they have a writing and production team. The legal team is there to review the scripts before they go into production and to do self-sponsorship. In a recent interview, Karan Johar revealed that all this has become necessary as Bollywood is a “soft target” which gets unnecessarily entangled in controversies.

Karan Johar Reveals The Legal Practices Behind Dharma Scripts

In a recent interview with journalist Faye D’souza on her YouTube channel, Karan Johar talked about how his production house practices self-sponsorship. The producer says that there is a fear of being involved in any form of legalities. Every organisation today has its legal department. Karan Johar revealed that his production house doesn’t want legal cases or FIRs filed against them. So, every script created by Dharma Productions or their digital arm, Dharmatic Entertainment, undergoes internal legal censorship before being produced into a film. Karan further says that this distinctive procedure is not because they are afraid, but that they don’t want to suffer any stress and anxiety of litigating court cases. And they would rather devote their attention to other important things.

Karan Johar further explained how Bollywood has become a soft target amongst everyone. The Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani maker said that sometimes the people who object to certain things in Bollywood, do it for all the wrong reasons. Karan Johar said sometimes he gets the impression that it’s just to get people upset since Bollywood or Indian movies are a soft target. He said that even though we have a diverse culture, people do and speak the things they want. But attack the industry online for doing the same thing. Karan Johar further stated an irony that Bollywood is a soft power and a soft target.
