Karan Johar On Feeling Lonely
Recently, Karan Johar had a meaningful conversation with Sania Mirza on the Serving It Up With Sania podcast. He touched up on his single life and expressed feeling lonely without a partner. He quoted the song ‘Har Kisi Ko Nahi Milta Pyaar Zindagi Mein’ and expressed that one feels lonelier in their highs than lows. He clarified that in lows, one has their friends, family and children’s support, revealing that he has two cousin sisters and best friends, whom he is very close to.
Karan posed a question: What does one do in their highs? The acclaimed director recalled getting a call about winning the National Award for Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani under the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment category. After he hung up, all he thought for a minute was what he could do that night, whose house could he go to or whose hand to hold on to? Karan expressed that he needed a little pat on the back and wanted to “feel happy.”

Further, the Student Of the Year director shared that when he went to the award ceremony, they asked him about his plus one and he had no one. He told Sania that everyone was coming with their plus ones, adding that his mother was not well enough to travel and his two kids, Roohi and Yash were too young. Karan admitted to feeling lonely and revealed that on many nights when he eats by himself, he avoids having food at the dining table and goes to his room so that he can “dilute” the loneliness.
But Karan’s hope is not lost! He quoted the famous saying “never say never,” adding that when it happens, he’ll be standing with his arms wide open like Shah Rukh Khan. We love his spirit. Karan also shared that he feels lonely especially during New Year’s when people go out and celebrate with their partners. He expressed that he rants about loneliness with his single friends and avoids joining couples. Karan also quipped that he wanted to kill people who engage in PDA in front of him! Honestly, we get him!
What Karan shared really hits deep. When celebrities talk about such sensitive topics, many people are able to relate to them on a core level. The director perfectly described how longing for a partner can make one feel especially when one achieves something in their life. The best thing about this conversation was how he has not lost hope of finding his better half! We appreciate him for his honesty!
