Punjabi artist Karan Aujla is officially in the spotlight after facing criticism for his new song MF Gabhru, which has caused outrage due to being said to contain disrespectful verses towards women The Punjab State Women’s Commission has also taken suo motu notice of the song and asked the state’s Director General of Police (DGP) to probe the matter. Aujla has also been called for questioning before the commission on August 11 when he will be questioned about the lyrics of the song.
What Did The Women’s Commission Say To Karan Aujla?
As the Commission says, MF Gabhru contains language seeming to encourage misogyny and degrade women, and it is a matter of concern for gender portrayal in Punjabi music today. Officials stressed the need to bring artists to task for content that has the potential to shape public attitudes and legitimise dangerous stereotypes.
The Commission has requested the police department to depute a senior officer to scrutinise the lyrics of the song thoroughly and make a report. Karan Aujla will be required to answer the issues raised when he is presented before the panel.
MF Gabhru, penned, rendered, and written by Aujla with music provided by producer Ikky, was released on August 1, 2025. The song gained massive popularity with more than 3 million views on YouTube, but later faced criticism for its use if offensive and obscene words for women, which were termed offensive by the Punjab Women’s Commission.

This is not the first case that the Women’s Commission is currently considering. Rapper and musician Honey Singh has also been issued a notice for the same reasons. His latest album, Millennium, has come under criticism for offensive lyrics, leading the Commission to issue a directive for a formal investigation. Singh has been called on the same day as Aujla — August 11 at 11:30 AM.
