The Himachal Pradesh High Court has issued a notice to BJP MP Kangana Ranaut in response to a petition challenging her election from the Mandi Lok Sabha seat. The petitioner, Layak Ram Negi, has raised concerns about the rejection of his nomination papers by the returning officer, which he claims was unjustified. Now this has created a buzz where Kangana Ranaut’s status as a BJP MP is in danger.

Why Kangana Ranaut’s BJP MP Seat Is Challenged?

Negi, a former government employee from Kinnaur, stated that he took voluntary retirement and provided a no-dues certificate from his department along with his nomination papers. He alleged that despite meeting these requirements, his nomination was dismissed by the returning officer, who demanded additional no-dues certificates from the electricity, water, and telephone departments. Negi contended that these additional demands led to the wrongful rejection of his nomination within a day.

Negi further explained that he submitted his election papers on May 14 and provided all other necessary documents by May 15. Despite this, the returning officer did not accept his papers, resulting in the rejection of his nomination as an independent candidate. Negi believes that his nomination was unjustly dismissed and argued that he could have won the election if his papers had been accepted. Consequently, he has requested that the election results be annulled. Kangana Ranaut secured the Mandi constituency seat in the recent Lok Sabha elections with a significant margin, receiving 5,37,002 votes. Her closest competitor, Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh, garnered 4,62,267 votes, resulting in a victory margin of 74,755 votes for Ranaut. The election outcome is now under scrutiny due to Negi’s petition, which could potentially impact Ranaut’s seat.

This development has created a buzz in political circles, as the High Court’s decision to issue a notice indicates that the case has enough merit to warrant further investigation. If Negi’s claims are proven valid, it could lead to significant repercussions, including the possibility of a re-election in the Mandi constituency.
