In recent events, actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has slammed the practice of targeting women by assassinating their characters. She said that this was not just an Indian but a global issue. This came amid the remarks of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, which were personal and derogatory and were aimed at women. Kangana also mentioned the purported implicit negative remarks made regarding actress Trisha by Tamil Nadu Opposition Leader Udhayanidhi Stalin.

Kangana Ranaut On Vijay, Trisha

During a chat with the reporters after a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, Kangana Ranaut pointed to a recent incident in Tamil Nadu involving a prominent actress. She noted that despite a situation concerning a mutual relationship between two people, public insults and character defamation disproportionately target the woman. She further spoke about how women in power could be vulnerable to such attacks and that this issue was not just in India, but a global one. Ranaut spoke about how the character assassination of women in power is a common way to bring them down.

She further went on to question when such things would stop and when society would change its attitude towards women. Her remarks come after Vijay brought up the alleged abuse felt by the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa during his recent speech. For the unversed, Ranaut had played Jayalalithaa in the 2021 biopic named Thalaivii. She concluded his speech by arguing that there must be a need for change in society’s attitude towards women.
