What Kangana Ranaut Said

On Wednesday, January 29, Kangana Ranaut took to her Instagram stories and shared her thoughts on having dusky skin actresses in the industry. She wrote, “This young girl Monalisa has become an internet sensation for her natural beauty. As much as I hate people harassing her for pictures and interviews, I can’t help but think – do we have dark, dusky Indian tone representation in the glamour world anymore?”

She questioned if young people loved dusky skin actresses like Anu Aggarwal, Kajol, Bipasha Basu, Deepika Padukone or Rani Mukerji. The Emergency actor expressed her opinion and asked why actresses of today looked as pale as white women and even those who were darker in their younger days. She further asked, “Why do people not identify with newcomers like they do with Monalisa? Too much laser and glutathione injections?”

The actor’s story buzzed a debate on social media with people commenting on their opinion. One user commented, “And the sad part is many from the mentioned (DP, Kajol, Rani) themselves are not dark-skinned anymore!” while another said, “Yes coz our society considers light skin better than dark skin. A peek into the matrimonial market is eye-opening. That reflects on screen as well.” Many even said that one should not comment on their looks as it’s their personal choice.
