Kangana Ranaut never fears to put forth her honest opinions on any and everything. Despite backlash for some of her problematic statements, the actress continues to speak her mind. She recently spoke about the downfall of OTT and how these digital platforms are running in extreme loss. Kangana kept forth these opinions from her own experience of working with the OTT platform.
Kangana Ranaut was recently seen in Tejas. While the actor has not yet done a film as an actor for the OTT platforms, she recently produced one titled Tiku Weds Sheru starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Avneet Kaur. During a conclave by TV9 Bharatvarsh, Kangana addressed the question about whether or not OTT has proved to be a boon for actors since it is considered to be a space where age or gender are not considered to be barriers. The Manikarnika actress dismissed this and said the reality of OTT platforms is quite opposite to the “rosy” pictures that have been painted for it. She further added that OTT platforms did great during the initial phase because of COVID-19 and claimed that most of the OTT platforms are running at a loss. Kangana Ranaut also asserted that the OTT platforms are not focusing on roping in new audiences instead are just holding on to their existing customer base.
The actor also said that a film like Queen wouldn’t be able to make the same box office collection today as it did then, because the OTT platforms have taken away half of the audience from moderate-budget films. Elaborating more on the topic, the Manikarnika actress said that OTT platforms cut their budgets into half and currently they are in a panic mode.

On several occasions, Kangana Ranaut has stressed the importance of watching films in theatres. Before her film Tejas’ release, she had urged the audience to watch her film in theatres. Kangana Ranaut will next be seen in Emergency. She will be acing the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the film is currently scheduled to release on June 14, 2024.
While we cannot say about Kangana Ranaut’s claims about OTT platforms going into a huge loss, it’s quite hard to believe that the craze for consuming content on OTT is diminishing any time soon!
