There has been a massive debate on how films that show India in a negative way are often picked for the Oscars and praised in the West. Many people believe these films focus more on the country’s problems instead of it’s rich culture. It is also believed that Oscars prefer films that show India as a place of struggle, which can be frustrating for those who think Indian cinema has a lot more to offer. Recently, Kangana Ranaut opened up about the same, and here’s what she said!
Kangana Ranaut On Oscars
In an interview with Times Now, Kangana Ranaut stated that films that show India in a very negative way are often chosen for the Oscars. She added that the agenda behind these choices is usually against India. Recently, she was excited about a film that is receiving a lot of praise. However, she was disappointed to hear the director say that in India, people cannot love freely because of religious intolerance. Kangana admitted she hasn’t watched the film yet, but she thinks that for an Oscar, it seems like the film has to portray the country badly, just like Slumdog Millionaire. She feels it always comes down to making India look like a terrible place.

She further mentioned that Emergency is not one of those films. She believes the West is ready to see how India is today. She has never really cared about awards, whether they are Indian or Western. She thinks the film is made very well and is as good as any international film. However, she understands how geopolitics influences these awards. As nationalists, she feels they don’t have much hope for these award ceremonies.
