Films are the best example of how they mirror and impact society at the same time. Watching films, especially the ones that are based on unhealthy relationships, is our guilty pleasure. Although I personally have not encountered that kind of toxic relationship, I know people close to me who have been in such dynamics, which is enough to ragebait me! If yoy’re also in the mood to get infuriated, watch the films listed below that represent toxic relationships.

Toxic Relationship In Films

1. Kabir Singh

This movie will always take the top spot in such lists. Kabir, played by Shahid Kapoor, falls in love with Preeti, played by Kiara Advani, whom he meets in college. His controlling nature and her submissiveness create an unhealthy yin and yang dynamic. But problems arise when Preeti’s father opposes their relationship, causing their separation and making their relationship more toxic. This is a crash course for people on what not to do in a relationship.

2. Rehna Hai Tere Dil Main

Many think RHTDM is a romantic tale, but for me, it’s actually a glorified, unhealthy relationship. R. Madhavan’s character, Maddy, who falls deeply for Reena, portrayed by Dia Mirza, tries everything in his power to make her fall for him too. He stalks her, ‘accidentally’ keeps bumping into her, and fakes the identity of Rajiv, whom Renna would be married to. When Maddy is held accountable for deceiving her, he gets devastated. But they both get together in the end. Despite showing a toxic relationship, the best that this movie did was introduce us to amazing songs that everyone loves to this day.

3. Animal

We thought Kabir for Kabir Singh was toxic, but no, his record was broken by Ranvijay from Animal. The wannabe ‘alpha male’, aka Ranvijay, has an unhealthy relationship with his dad. Things take a quick turn when his father is shot, which prompts the lead to take the path of violence. In the story, Ranvijay compliments his love interest, Geetanjali, by saying that she had a ‘big pelvis’ which would be beneficial when she’d carry babies. He pursues her, only to cheat after marrying her. Although Ranbir Kapoor portrayed the titular character who was toxic, he aced it to the fullest.

4. Aashiqui 2

This film was known to be a sad romantic tale, but for me, it was just sad. Aditya Roy Kapur’s Rahul, an established musician, crosses paths with Aarohi, played by Shraddha Kapoor, a struggling singer and falls in love with her. He helps her make a name for herself in the music industry. When she gets more attention and popularity compared to him, jealousy enters their relationship. His insecurity makes him an alcoholic, and he behaves in a toxic way with his girlfriend. He takes a massive step in the end that just makes the entire story very tragic. Kapur has given one of the best performances of his career in this movie.

5. Tere Naam

Although Salman Khan gave an unforgettable performance as Radhe, no one can look at this film as anything more than a toxic tale. Radhe, who is in love with Nirjana, tries everything to woo her, and all those tactics are questionable. After hating him, she eventually falls for him. But a fight breaks in, which makes Radhe mentally unstable, leading to a sad end to their love story. Although an unhealthy relationship was shown in the movie, the filmmakers have done a good job of storytelling.
