It all started with a YouTube video from a K-Pop commentator. According to her friends in the advertising field, Jennie felt uneasy when NewJeans’ Minji was chosen as a Chanel ambassador. She said Jennie and her mother were sad, fearing Minji could take over Jennie’s long-held position with the luxury brand. The commentator further added that Chanel officials had to speak up and assure them that the ‘Seoul City’ singer’s role was completely secure and not at risk. Lastly, she noted that she could not confirm if every detail was fully true and asked fans to view it carefully, without jumping to conclusions.
Even with that warning, the clip went viral on platforms like X. Many people quickly turned against Jennie and said she seemed insecure about a rising K-pop idol. Some people accused her of being unable to accept competition and even brought her family into the criticism and called the entire situation childish.

On the other side, BLINKs came in defence. They said that Chanel is a massive global company worth billions, and it was hard to believe they would make changes just to please one ambassador.
