The K-pop side of X is always buzzing with claims of plagiarism, as fans quickly spot similarities and share their thoughts. Recently, 5th-gen girl group BABYMONSTER, found themselves at the center of such a controversy. Their latest music video has garnered immense attention for allegedly copying scenes from ATEEZ’s music video. ATINYs believe that the 5th gen girl group’s ‘We Go Up’ music video features similar scenes from the boy group’s ‘Bouncy’ music video. This has ignited heated debates online. So, read on!

BABYMONSTER’s We Go Up MV Faces Backlash For “Copying” ATEEZ’s Bouncy MV

On October 10, BABYMONSTER dropped their new mini-album and the music video for its title track, ‘We Go Up’. Excited fans took to social media platforms and showered lots of love. However, soon fans of ATEEZ shared video clips and photos in which they pointed out two striking similarities.

In one scene, BABYMONSTER’s Chiquita steps into a fighting ring, charging at her opponent and landing a powerful kick to their face. ATEEZ’s Bouncy includes a nearly identical moment with their member San, where the setup, camera angles, and action feel remarkably close.

Another scene which added fuel to the fire was when BABYMONSTER’s Rora fired a sniper rifle, with the bullet cutting through walls in slow motion. ATEEZ fans spotted that the sequence is similar to one in ‘Bouncy’ when Hongjoong shoots a sniper rifle, and the camera follows the bullet and then focuses on the group. These parallels in visuals and staging have led to accusations of copying.

However, BABYMONSTER’s fans argue that these similarities are coincidental. They point out that fighting scenes and dramatic slow-motion shots are common in music videos, especially in K-pop. Many fans believe these elements are not unique to ATEEZ and are simply part of the genre’s style. As of now, the people are still talking. Some people demand accountability, whereas others say that the accusations are overblown.
