X:IN is a multinational group, and they recently made their comeback with a mini album, Defend Myself, with ‘Attention Seeker’ as its title track. The title track is not ordinary, as it includes 4 different languages: Korean, Hindi, English and Russian. Crazy, right? Well, during an exclusive interview with Hauterrfly, we asked the members about the process behind it, and here’s what they revealed. Read on!

Aria, Nova Of X:IN Open Up On Including Hindi, Russian In The Title Track

Q: Including Russian, Hindi, and Korean in your song makes it truly global. How did you learn and understand these languages for the song, and will you make another song with more Hindi or Malayali in the future?

Aria: “For Attention Seeker, in the bridge part we had to express the clashing of personas portraying different emotions, and we thought, What better than doing it in our own languages to make it sound more raw and honest?’ In the future, if it is needed and feels right, I’m not against including Hindi or Malayalam in a song again.”

Nova: “The idea to use our native languages in a K-pop song was very surprising to me when I first heard it from our producer. We didn’t even have a guide version of the song yet—he just suddenly said that, in one part, our voices would clash together like different personas in someone’s head. As soon as I heard it, I thought it was really impactful and creative, so I got excited right away. The producer gave each of us three different personas to portray and asked us to write lyrics based on that, so we tried to express the emotions as deeply as possible. I’m not sure if we’ll use our native languages again in future songs—it will probably depend on the concept—but it was definitely a special and memorable experience for this album.”
