AI has become a very hot topic among K-pop idols lately. Recently, BLACKPINK’s Jisoo shared her views on AI, and her comments quickly spread like wildfire across social media platforms. This sparked heated discussions and debates online. Many fans accused her of being performative and criticised her opinions, especially because the timing perfectly lined up with the major controversy surrounding BLACKPINK’s new MV ‘GO’. Read on to know more about it!

BLACKPINK’s Jisoo talked about artificial intelligence on Yoo In-na’s YouTube show Yoo-In Radio. She was there with her co-star Seo In-guk to promote their new Netflix drama Boyfriend on Demand. While discussing the show’s theme and behind-the-scenes, the ‘Earthquake’ singer joked that AI is still not as good as humans. She said it needs a lot more time to get close to humans’ skill level. Seo In-guk mentioned that she kept saying the same thing during the whole shoot. Further, Jisoo added that she finds it hard to believe that AI could ever catch up to people.

Her comments made rounds online. Following which, some fans brought up her song Eyes Closed with Zayn Malik. The music video for that song showed a Google Pixel phone using Gemini AI. Many pointed out how this looked different from her recent comments about AI. This made people question if her views matched her actions.

The debate became much bigger and more intense after BLACKPINK released their song GO from the Deadline album. Fans looked at the music video credits and saw mentions of AI VFX and AI production. Some felt her words about AI seemed odd or not true, since the group’s latest video used AI. Many netizens called her performative, especially because GO was released around the same time.
