5 K-Dramas Where Besties Turned Into Lovers
1. Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo
Directed by Oh Hyun-Joong, this K-Drama has all the feels in it! It features Nam Joo-Hyuk and Lee Sung-Kyun playing the romantic leads and let me warn you, this show is full of cuteness, giggles, comedy and heartwarming college love. This series follows the story of young athletes at a sports university. Bok-joo, a weightlifter meets Jung Joon-hyung, a carefree swimmer and their lives get intertwined and the chaos occurs. They get connected and their friendship gradually transforms into a sweet and heartwarming romance. If you are a sucker for friends to lovers trope, add this show to your list!

2. She Was Pretty
This rom-com stars Park Seo-Joon and Hwang Jung-eum in lead roles. Directed by Jung Dae-Yoon, it’s a story about childhood friends becoming lovers! Well, this trope definitely revolves around destiny. And, destiny surely works in mysterious ways, doesn’t it? The story follows the lives of Ji Sung Joon and Kim Hye Jin. Sung Joon, a young guy who faced body shaming and Hye Jin who was the total opposite. They were close friends until Sung Joon moved to the US. Years later, Sung Joon returns to Korea as a charming magazine editor and Hye Jin who’s life took a turn in terms of beauty. What happens to both? Well, I’m not the type to give you spoilers! But, it’s a must-watch for sure.

3. Reply 1988
Well, if you are someone who enjoys watching the introvert x extrovert love trope, this couple will absolutely melt your heart! Choi Taek and Sung Deok-Sun are one of the most realistic and beautiful on-screen couples in the world of K-Dramas! The entire series is based on 5 friends who supported each other through thick and thin. It’s a group of 4 boys and 1 girl, where the most shy guy falls in love with the loud and chaotic, Deok-sun! It promises you a pool of emotions and is one of the highest-rated K-dramas on Netflix!
4. Soundtrack #1
Directed by Kim Hee-won, Han Seon Woo and Lee Eun Soo have been best friends for over 20 years, but they have always been just “good friends.” However, things change when the two end up living together for two weeks. They start feeling a special connection, and love blossoms as they experience the ups and downs of being so close to each other. What’s the ultimate decision? Well, you need to watch this beautiful drama to know.
5. Fight For My Way
One of many reasons why this certain trope is my favourite is because I love how they argue and can be unapologetically themselves around each other. Sharing a similar story, Ko Dong-man and Choi Ae-ra have been buddies since they were kids. Dong-man who used to be an athlete gave up his dream because of a tough situation. Whereas, Ae-ra who wanted to be a broadcaster, ended up working at a store. Despite their constant bickering, their playful side takes a turn when they realize there’s “more” to their friendship. It’s a comedy riot about them chasing their dreams together and offering the audience their insane chemistry!
