IU and Byeon Wooseok’s upcoming K-drama Perfect Crown has created a massive buzz online! Fans love the unique storyline and the chemistry, but some have criticised the male lead actor’s acting in the teaser clips. Now, a new wave of backlash has surfaced and it targets the female lead actor’s brief flashback scene. Many viewers find it odd and are voicing their concerns online. Read on to know all about it!
The Disney+ series Perfect Crown stars IU as Seong Hui Ju and Byeon Woo Seok as Prince Yi An. IU’s character is from a very rich family but treated like an ordinary person. Byeon Woo Seok plays a prince who has a big title but very little power. Their lives become intertwined through a contract marriage which leads to chaos. Fans are super excited because the two stars have great chemistry, it’s the first time they are working together and the visuals look elegant.
The show will air later but teasers are already out. One teaser shows IU’s past, including her high school days. In a short scene, she runs down a school hallway wearing a uniform, next to actor Noh Sang Hyun, who is also in a school uniform. This clip spread like wildfire on social media platforms.
Many viewers felt strange seeing it because IU is 32 and Noh Sang Hyun is 35. They said it looks odd for grown adults to act like teenagers, even for a memory scene. Some people commented that it feels wrong and asked why not use younger actors.
Others disagree and support the choice. They point out that Perfect Crown is mostly about grown-up life, love, and royal drama and not school life. The high school part is only a small flashback. Using adult actors keeps real children safe from rigorous filming schedules. In many K-dramas, older actors play teen roles in past scenes, and it usually does not hurt the story.
