Justin Baldoni, Blake Lively Legal Drama Has A New Update
Earlier this month, U.S. District Judge Lewis J. Liman dismissed Baldoni’s countersuit, saying the claims lacked sufficient merit. The actor and filmmaker, best known for Jane the Virgin, had been given until June 23 to revise his claims, which included allegations of breach of implied agreement and intentional disruption of contracts. But Baldoni and his legal team have opted not to refile.
Instead, Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, told Page Six they are shifting their focus to defending against Lively’s lawsuit. He maintained that their legal position remains strong, despite the dismissal of their suit. According to Freedman, they are still confident that discovery the legal process of gathering evidence will ultimately support Baldoni’s side of the story.
Freedman also insisted that the judge’s decision does not reflect on the underlying truth of the matter, asserting that there was no misconduct or smear campaign from Baldoni’s side.
However, Lively’s camp painted a very different picture. A representative for the Gossip Girl actress described the outcome as a total victory noting that despite earlier promises to revise and refile the case, Baldoni’s side ultimately backed down. The spokesperson labeled the original suit frivolous and characterised its dismissal as a decisive blow.
The legal drama began after Lively filed a complaint with the California Civil Rights Department last year, accusing Baldoni of sexual harassment during the making of It Ends With Us, a film he was producing. Baldoni then countersued for 400 million, alleging defamation and interference with business contracts.

Although Baldoni’s defamation claims were thrown out, he did win a small victory last week: Judge Liman granted him access to private text messages exchanged between Lively and pop star Taylor Swift, potentially shedding light on the nature of Lively’s harassment claims.
The legal battle continues but for now, it’s Lively who appears to have the upper hand.
