The Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial was one of the most publicised trials in the world. Everyone had their two cents to give on the case, and even documentaries were made about it. Now, in a recent interview, Johnny Depp has opened up about his experience during the trial and called himself a crash test dummy for the MeToo movement. Here is what he had to say.
Johnny Depp On Trial Against Amber Heard And The Me Too Movement
In 2022, Johnny Depp won a defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard for an opinion piece she had written in The Washington Post. Heard had alleged that Johnny Depp had domestically abused her throughout their marriage in the article. In 2018, Depp lost a case against The Sun after they published an article referring to him as a wife-beater.
Now Depp recalled his legal battle and said that he feels like he was the test dummy for the MeToo movement. Depp said that his case was before Harvey Weinstein’s infamous case, and he had to sponge it all in. The actor went on to say that he was ostracised and turned on by people close to him due to the public backlash of the situation.
Johnny Depp also spoke about why he decided to go through with the public trial. He said the situation had blown up out of proportion. He said his kids were also getting affected by this. Depp said that he has no regrets about the trial and is glad that he went ahead with it.
Depp’s Career After The Trial
Although Depp had partially won the case against Amber Heard, he still received a lot of criticism both online and offline. People felt that the trial judgment was not fair. Johnny Depp was dropped from the Fantastic Beasts franchise.
He is now set to make his Hollywood comeback with the film Day Drinker. He will play a mysterious figure who meets Penélope Cruz’s bartender at a cruise ship, and the two get embroiled in the underworld.
